FAQ

What are mushroom cultures?

Mushroom cultures are living collections of mycelium, the vegetative part of a fungus. Mycelium is composed of long, branching cells that produce mushrooms. A culture can be grown on its own or used to inoculate substrate, which is then used to grow mushrooms.

What are the benefits of using cultures instead of spawn?

Cultures are used to maintain a pure strain of mushroom mycelium, while spawn is used to transfer mycelium from one substrate to another. Spawn is typically made by inoculating a sterilized substrate with a culture.

Do you sell medicinal mushroom cultures?

Of course! We have a wide selection of medicinal mushroom cultures, including some of the most popular varieties.

What is the difference between a culture and a strain?

A culture is a living collection of mycelium, while a strain is a specific variety of mushroom.

What is the difference between a spore print and a culture?

A spore print is a collection of spores from a mushroom

How long do mushroom cultures last?

Mushroom cultures can last for many years with proper care. However, it is recommended to use them within a year for best results.

How should I store my mushroom cultures?

Mushroom cultures should be stored in a cool, dark place. We recommend storing them in the refrigerator or freezer.

How do you collect mushroom culture?

Mushroom culture can be collected from the wild or cultivated from spores. It is typically collected from the stems of mushrooms.

Do you sell mushroom spores?

No, we do not sell mushroom spores.

How do I know if my culture is contaminated?

If you see any mold or bacteria growing on your culture, it is likely contaminated. Please contact us immediately and we will send you a new culture.

Can I use wild mushrooms to create a culture?

Yes, you can use wild mushrooms to create a culture. However, it is important to make sure the cultures are free of contaminants.

Treasure!! The best!!
I had been using Avene Compensating cream for years before it was reformulated and renamed as “Revitalizing” in (as I remember) 2020. At the time, every single comment I saw complained about its pilling and its getting worse after reformulation. Every single comment wished for the old formulation back. Because Avene Compensating was PERFECT for me, I got very anxious after reading the comments and decided not to purchase the new Revitalizing cream. I jumped around from products to products for the last 2 years (from expensive La Mer cream, Cle de peau La Creme, Lancome soft cream, Amorepacific Time Response to less expensive Clarins Hydra, Embryolisse). Nothing beat Avene Compensating cream. Nothing came close to Avene Compensating cream in terms of giving my easily irritated skin that clear, well moisturized, trouble-free, healthful look. Fast forward to the week of Thanksgiving 2022 after I got back from a Las Vegas trip with terribly dry and dehydrated reddish skin that nothing helped (and I always use sheet masks daily), I decided to give Avene Revitalizing a try. Worst case scenario, I would waste my $40 that I, very likely, would otherwise waste on another non Avene moisturizer. I’m so grateful I gave it a try. I don’t know if Avene listened to its loyal customers and brought the old formulation back, or if they improved the new formulation that pilled, but the Avene Revitalizing cream (I tried both rich and regular versions) did not pill at all for me and as far as I can still remember, Avene Compensating cream felt the same to me. After 2 nights of Avene Revitalizing, my skin is pretty much back to normal now. I think this is the old formulation but I can’t say for sure because it was more than 2 years ago when I last used the cream, but no matter what, if it keeps being what it is now, I will be a customer for life. Please Avene. Don’t change formulation again.
