Details

Hassan; or, The Spoilt Favourite, an unproduced manuscript with a complete libretto and full score, based on “The Story of Abu Hassan, or, the Sleeper Awakened” from the anonymous collection of tales, One Thousand and One Nights, first published in English in 1704. Charles Dibdin was no stranger to the practice of adaptation – the transformation of subject matter, characters, situations, and dialogue from its original source into another work – which had been the stock-in-trade for dramatists since Thespis stepped out of the dithyrambic chorus in a mask portraying a different character. Greek playwrights adapted myths; their medieval progeny dramatized the Bible; Shakespeare adapted Holinshed, Plutarch, the commedia dell’arte, Boccaccio, and Saxo Grammaticus; and as Richard Hornby persuasively noted in Drama, Metadrama, and Perception, dramatic writing is not only an imitation of life, it is foremost an imitation of other plays. It is no surprise, then, that Charles Dibdin should argue in his Complete History of the Stage (1800) that there is no harm in borrowing, for “Every author has a right to imitate whatever he is capable of improving” (5:160).

Provided with only a rudimentary musical education in his youth, Charles Dibdin was highly influenced by Italian opera composers whose galant style of composition he borrowed to create an indigenous musical theatre sound, based on simple, easily accessible harmonies and pulsating rhythms, with engaging melodies that were capable of capturing a dramatic situation more effectively than those of composers with better musical training. Although he was harmonically conservative and firmly rooted in basic diatonic harmonies (tonic, subdominant, and dominant), Dibdin created melodies that ranged from folk-like simplicity to heavily elaborated coloratura, always displaying an expert command of vocal techniques (breath control, phrasing, register changes) and dramatic necessity.Adhering to the typical makeup of the eighteenth-century English theatre orchestra, Dibdin scored Hassan for four woodwinds: either two oboes, two flutes, or two clarinets, and two bassoons, which typically doubled the violoncello parts, but were also used as solo instruments; two horns, pitched invarious keys; and strings. Dibdin wrote no parts for percussion, trumpet, or keyboard, even though he may have expected the orchestra leader to conduct from one.

very poor quality
Size: 14, Color: Black
they are a peice of garbage, within about a month since i started wearing them the outer material started pealing off within two months the upper separated from the soles so i had to go to a shoemaker to sew them back together, within some few months the insoles completely wore out rendering the shoes unwearable, now mind you that i do not abuse shoes but use them in a normal office oriented enviorment, i will for sure not be buying these shoes again

Sleek and classy loafer
Size: 10.5, Color: Black
Was skeptical on this purchase but I have to say, well worth it. Not super expensive but very comfortable. Wears well for summer dress attire for taking your lady out for a dinner or show. Casual yet classy. Not a bad buy.

Great Step In Shoe
Size: 11, Color: Cognac
For people (like me) that have physical and/or medical issues that makes it difficult to bend over to put shoes on, or even to just tie shoes, these shoes make that process so much easier! I have been wearing similar "step in" shoes from another manufacturer (Kizix) that has stopped making leather shoes that are more stylish and business like, similar to this. I haven't tried to polish them yet, but I assume that they will shine up just fine - and they look good now, with a great finish. The sole of the shoe is a solid rubber and I don't slip when I am wearing these, and I am quite impressed by their quality. I look forward to getting another style soon.

Great buy
Color: A-white Flowers Bf290, Size: Large
This shirt is so soft and comfortable. I went with a large, though my recommended size was an xl. I'm so glad that I read the other reviews and went with large, as this is the perfect size for me. Also, with the right color bra, I don't need an undershirt with this. Which is especially nice considering I wanted a nice, light spring/summer top. I also think that it could easily be dressed up or down depending on what it is paired with. Definitely worth the purchase.
