41A3589-3 / 41A3589-12 Garage Door Opener Drive Belt (235")
Key Features
- Steel-Reinforced Rubber: Manufactured with high-strength internal steel cords encased in a durable rubber compound to prevent stretching, fraying, and snapping under the high-torque loads of heavy garage doors.
- Precision-Molded Teeth: Engineered with a specific tooth profile designed to mesh perfectly with the drive sprocket, ensuring silent operation and preventing the "slipping" common with worn belts.
- Whisper-Quiet Performance: The rubber-to-metal interface significantly reduces operational noise compared to traditional chain drives, making it the ideal choice for garages located beneath living spaces.
- Precision 235" Length: Specifically measured for standard 7-foot tall garage doors, providing the exact tension required for full-travel opening and closing without excessive slack.
- Factory-Spec End Connectors: Features pre-installed heavy-duty metal terminals designed to hook directly into the trolley and tensioner assemblies for a secure, fail-safe connection.

Compatibility & Fitment
This replacement belt is designed for LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Craftsman belt-drive openers manufactured from 1993 to present. Key compatible models include:
- Chamberlain Series: Fits HD600, WD952KD, WD822KS, WD912KS, WD822K, WD922K, and WD952K.
- LiftMaster Series: Compatible with 2280, 2500, 2580, 2585, 3280, 3280M, 3580, 3500, and 8550 models.
- Sears Craftsman: Fits various 139-prefix belt-drive models (e.g., 139.53915, 139.53918).
- Note: This belt is for **7-foot doors only**. If your garage door is 8 feet tall, you will need the longer 41A3589-2 belt (approx. 255").
When to Replace
- Visible Fraying or Cracking: If the edges of the belt look "fuzzy" or the rubber shows deep horizontal cracks, the internal steel reinforcement is at risk of snapping.
- Excessive Slack: If the belt sags more than an inch below the rail and cannot be tightened further via the tensioner nut, the material has reached its limit of elasticity.
- Teeth Stripping: If the motor spins but the door doesn't move (or jerks), the teeth on the belt have likely been shaved off at the drive sprocket point.
- Black "Dust" on Rail: Finding black rubber shavings on top of the opener or along the rail indicates the belt is grinding and nearing failure.
Installation Tips
- Safety First: CRITICAL: Unplug the garage door opener and pull the emergency release cord to disconnect the trolley before beginning. This prevents the motor from engaging while your hands are near the drive sprocket.
- Tension is Key: PRO TIP: Tighten the tensioner nut until the belt is approximately 1/4" to 1/2" above the base of the rail at the midpoint. Over-tightening can lead to premature motor and sprocket wear.
- Check the Pulley: While the belt is off, inspect the idler pulley at the front of the rail. If it is squeaking or wobbly, replace it along with the belt to ensure smooth, quiet operation.
- The "Zip Tie" Helper: When feeding the new belt around the drive sprocket, use a zip tie to temporarily hold it in place while you pull the other end toward the trolley connection.
- Limit Adjustment: After installing a new belt, you may need to slightly adjust the "Open" and "Close" travel limits on the motor head to account for the difference in tension compared to your old, stretched belt.
