While you can combine the SR 900 surround speakers with any front speakers from the Aria line, Focal recommends a pair of the Aria 936 speakers, an Aria CC 900 center speaker, two surround Aria SR 900 speakers, and the Sub 300 P subwoofer for a truly outstanding 5.1 surround system.
All Focal speaker drivers are developed and manufactured in France by Focal.
TNF Inverted Dome Tweeter
Focal brand's signature product, the inverted dome tweeter has been continually developed ever since it was created. Its main advantage, apart from its very-low directivity, lies in its use of a coil of small diameter (hence very light and better accelerating) directly fixed to the rigid dome. The suspension between the dome and its bracket uses Poron, a material with shape memory. This suspension method is directly derived from Focal's famous Utopia Beryllium tweeter, making it possible to reduce distortion by a factor of three in the 2-3 kHz range, where the human ear has very great sensitivity. To further improve this a waveguide has been developed. In a horizontal plane, its frequency response has a variance of ±0.5 dB. This performance guarantees an incredibly stable sound stage, which makes the listening position much less critical.
Flax Cone
More than 30 years of research and development into engineering a diaphragm that is light, rigid, well-damped, and made of sustainable materials has led Focal to the Flax Sandwich or F Cone. Flax is twice as light as fiberglass because the fiber is hollow. It also has very-low elasticity, which makes it ideal to increase the flexural rigidity of the sandwich. To design a high-performance diaphragm, you have to optimize a complex set of criteria, which are for the most part contradictory. The composite solution using flax in a sandwich structure with fiberglass skins is a very harmonious way of combining low mass with high internal damping, high velocity of sound, and high flexural rigidity.
The flax cone is made in France exclusively by Focal since 2013. With their original design, the cone is entirely oriented towards acoustic performance. F cones are characterized by their natural sound, with low coloration, their richness of reproduction in the midrange register, and their tighter bass.
Run-In period
The Aria 900 range loudspeakers are complex mechanical assemblies that need a period of adaptation ("run in") to operate at their best and to become acclimated to the temperature and humidity conditions of your environment. This running-in period varies depending on the conditions in question and may last for some weeks. To facilitate run-in, we recommend operating the speakers for approximately twenty hours consecutively. Once the loudspeakers' characteristics are totally established, you will be able to enjoy your Aria 900's performance to the full.
