From the award-winning author of The Great Trouble comes a story of espionage, survival, and friendship during World War II.

Bertie Bradshaw never set out to become a spy. He never imagined traipsing around war-torn London, solving ciphers, practicing surveillance, and searching for a traitor to the Allied forces. He certainly never expected that a strong-willed American girl named Eleanor would play Watson to his Holmes (or Holmes to his Watson, depending on who you ask).

But when a young woman goes missing, leaving behind a coded notebook, Bertie is determined to solve the mystery. With the help of Eleanor and his friend David, a Jewish refugee--and, of course, his trusty pup, Little Roo--Bertie must decipher the notebook in time to stop a double agent from spilling the biggest secret of all to the Nazis.

From the author of The Great Trouble, this suspenseful WWII adventure reminds us that times of war call for bravery, brains and teamwork from even the most unlikely heroes.

Far from enthralling, but I did learn
Format: Paperback
This book was a disappointment. It looked like exactly what I was looking for: an overview of the history, society, and culture of Egypt from ancient to modern times that wasn't 500+ pages long. I did learn a fair bit of information, but unfortunately, the book is far from "enthralling." It reads like a high school student's book report. In addition, it sometimes just throws terms out there with no explanation, and I found myself having to consult Google. For example, it says "Since hieroglyphs were difficult to create, the Egyptians developed hieretic writing, which was a type of cursive script. Later, demotic writing was developed for ordinary documents." What is demotic writing? How is it different from hieretic? The book doesn't even provide a picture. I had to go to Wikipedia to find out what these things are. This book needs slightly more detail and an author with better writing style / storytelling abilities. That said, it still may be the best short introduction available.

Recommended read by tour guide to Egypt
Format: Paperback
Very good history book of Egypt in non-complicated terms. I wish there were more pictures and maps to add to the descriptions in the book. Read this as it was recommended by our tour guide to Egypt in April
