This species is found in the upper coastal streams of the Parnaiba River in northeastern Brazil, and is one of the most spectacularly colored of all Apistogramma species. Apistogramma Piauiensis is an omnivorous fish that feeds on small invertebrates, insect larvae and plant matter. It is an excellent choice for a community tank, and is known to be very peaceful and display beautiful coloration.
