This striking Pāua Hei Toki pendant combines the natural beauty of New Zealand's Pāua shell with the powerful symbolism of the Hei Toki—a traditional Māori adze-shaped carving. Handcrafted with care, the pendant showcases vibrant, iridescent colours that range from deep blues and greens to purple hues, all shimmering and shifting with the light. Each piece of Pāua is unique, making every pendant a one-of-a-kind creation.

The Hei Toki shape has deep significance in Māori culture, representing strength, skill, and the ability to carve one's destiny. Traditionally, it was a tool used for shaping wood, and symbolically, it also represents personal and spiritual growth. In this pendant, the adze shape is a reminder of resilience, determination, and the connection between humanity and nature. The use of Pāua in this design adds another layer of meaning, symbolizing the connection to the ocean, protection, and ancestral heritage. The ocean, with its power and mystery, is a vital part of Māori cosmology and spiritual belief.

Scientific Composition:
Pāua (Haliotis iris) is an abalone species native to the coastal waters of New Zealand. Its shell is made up of aragonite (a form of calcium carbonate) and conchiolin, which create the iridescent layers that give the Pāua its stunning colour variations. The interplay of these layers forms a dazzling, iridescent effect that can shift depending on the angle of light. The shell is also incredibly durable and has been prized for its strength and beauty for centuries.

Key Features:
🔹 Material: Authentic New Zealand Pāua (Haliotis iris)
🔹 Shape: Hei Toki adze-inspired pendant, polished front and textured back
🔹 Cultural Significance: Strength, resilience, personal growth, connection to ancestors and the ocean
🔹 Scientific Composition: Aragonite (CaCO₃) and conchiolin, forming nacreous layers
🔹 Dimensions: Varies slightly due to natural shell formation
🔹 Finish: Smooth, polished front with natural textures on the back

Each Hei Toki pendant is a unique work of art, celebrating both the craftsmanship of traditional Māori tools and the beauty of New Zealand’s coastal treasures. Wear it as a symbol of strength and protection, carrying the essence of the ocean and ancestral wisdom wherever you go.

Care Instructions:
To maintain the beauty of your Pāua Abalone Shell Pendant,

Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals and prolonged sunlight to prevent fading.
Clean gently with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive materials.
Store separately in a soft pouch to avoid scratches.

Due to the nature and age of the shell/animal, there was a lot of layering on the shell that comes with the animal's growth. This layering, even when sanded back, is likely to create snagging on loose knitted or crocheted clothing due to its rough texture on the upper shell.

Suspended from an adjustable waxed poly cord, this pendant is a versatile piece of jewellery that can be worn for any occasion. The adjustable cord length ensures a comfortable fit and allows you to customise the length of the pendant to suit your style and preference.

The Paua Abalone shell is revered in the Maori culture for its spiritual significance, believed to bring protection, prosperity, and good fortune. As you wear this pendant, you connect with the Maori heritage and invite a sense of spiritual harmony, tranquility, and abundance.

Whether you are seeking a meaningful gift or a personal adornment, this hand-carved New Zealand Rainbow Paua Abalone Shell Hei Toki Adze Axe Head Pendant is a symbol of the ocean's magic and the human connection to nature. Allow it to immerse you in the beauty and mystery of the sea, and let it inspire you to explore the depths of your soul.

Great Way to Teach Manners and Appropriate Behavior
Format: Paperback
When I read this book, I found myself nodding my head so much and lovind the lessons taught. There is a story about the little pig who said "I won't" whenever his mom asked him for help. Then he learns he is missing out by always not wanting to help when his brother "I will" gets to have a fun day at the dock. Sweet little stories about how to act appropriately when you are a guest and how to treat others. It is just darling. My daughter LOVES it because she watches the Richard Scary cartoons on Saturday about solving mysteries. She keeps asking me to read this book to her. I love being able to teach these lessons through this darling book. Highly recommended. :)

My 2 yr old son LOVES this book
Format: Paperback
I bought this for my son to introduce him to saying please and thank you in a manner that wasn't me (his mom) or his dad constantly asking him to say it. Now he reads through this book at least once a day (he has for the past 3 months that we've had this book), and he recites to me all the things that you should do and all the things that you shouldn't do. He points out who is good and who is bad in the book. And when he acts up all I have to say to him is "does Lowly worm (or whoever I can remember) do that in the book? Is he rude?" and instantly he is reminded to not act a certain way. It's much more effective than me asking him to stop. This is a book that should be in every child's library. I read the "top" review here, whatever that means, where the reviewer stated they didst' like the book because it was too negative. That review reeks of a nanny parent; please get over yourself. Give me a break - you are and adult and a parent, you are not your child's friend and a healthy dose of Vitamin NO is exactly what every 2 yr old needs. Highly highly highly recommend for all parents of very young children.

Good manners book
Format: Paperback
Good anecdotes and lessons in this book. I wanted to get a book to read to my 4 year old. This book keeps her attention and she likes it. This book talks about many subjects: Proper etiquette for please, thank you, your welcome, being a good guest, helping out with parents, friends, teachers and neighbors, etc. It feels a little long and a lot foing on with each page, but overall a good quality book. Would buy again.

Fun Lessons
Format: Paperback
You can never go wrong with reading a Richard Scarry book. This book teaches manners to young children very well. My young granddaughter has started speaking in complete sentences, and she is using please and thank you. This book is a good introduction for using these words.

Fun way to learn good behavior!
Format: Paperback
Good value for the price, you get 7 short stories with this book & the illustrations are very well done. If your child's attention span can't handle the entire book you can still manage a few. Lots of funny action pictures to hold their interest, my 4 1/2 yr old son flips through the book on his own just to look at the pictures and they are descriptive enough to follow the story without reading the words. It's a favorite book to listen to because he is of age to get in trouble and to be held accountable, so he likes to see that he is not the only one. His favorite story is Pig Will and Pig Won't. Hint: Say "I won't" with an angry piggy snort! This cracks kids up, they will anticipate the words and snort along with you "I won't"! Sometimes works to change a defiant or lazy mood when I ask him to do something, I will ask "is my D. a pig will or pig won't today?".. helps to snort a little! Can't overuse it though..
