On Grief and Reason collects the essays that Joseph Brodsky wrote between his reception of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1987 and his death in January 1996. The volume includes Brodsky's Nobel lecture; essays on the condition of exile, the nature of history, the art of reading, and the notion of the poet as an inveterate Don Giovanni; his "Immodest Proposal" for the future of poetry, written when he was serving as Poet Laureate of the United States; a consideration of the poetry of Robert Frost; his searching estimations of Hardy, Horace, and Rilke; an affecting memoir of Stephen Spender; and a moving meditation on the figure of Marcus Aureilus. The essays, composed in Brodsky's distinctive, idiomatic English, are inventive and alive.

The Nobel laureate, himself branded a "pseudo-poet in velveteen trousers" by Soviet authorities and expelled from his home country in 1972, writes boldly of the poet's place in society: "By failing to read or listen to poets, a society dooms itself to inferior modes of articulation--of the politician, or the salesman, or the charlatan--in short, to its own. It forfeits . . . its own evolutionary potential . . ." This edition, reissued on the occasion of the late author's eightieth birthday, prompts the reader to consider Brodsky's words with renewed contemplation of the current state of literature and the society in which we read it.

Perfect for heavy chewers
Style: Hedgehog dog toys
These toys are so impressive! We purchased them as a gift for someone with a very aggressive chewer that LOVES stuffed animals but then makes a huge mess with all of the fluff. It’s a small to medium size dog. These toys were a great size for him and one little hedgehog lasted a whole entire week before it got its first hole chewed into it. This is outstanding quality as many other plush toys that are supposed to be durable last about 5-10 minutes for him. The fact that the hedgehog squeaks keeps his attention and then when the hedgehog is chewed up he has a cute sensory ball to play with instead of making a stuffing mess. Absolutely great product.

Highly recommended!!!

Best plush ever!!! My boys absolutely love it; they normally destroy plushies within 5 minutes but they’ve both been carrying theirs around all day. The lack of stuffing means I won’t have an explosion to clean up, and the squeaker is huge (it’s the main bulk of the body) so I don’t have to worry about them accidentally swallowing it. Great size, well made, great texture/materials.

Sturdy and cleans teeth!
Style: Hedgehog dog toys
My chihuahua and I play catch with this hedgehog chewy and it's perfect! It's very slightly large for him but he likes carrying it, can do so well, and it cleans his teeth! Plus the large squeaky insight gets him pretty excited. I appreciate the slightly lower tone. Also, the items arrived NOT soaked in fragrance like so many pet products. Very grateful. 5 stars!

Squeaky Ball Doesn’t Squeak for Long
Style: Hedgehog dog toys
My large dogs like these, though their teeth punctured the squeaky ball inside almost immediately. So, the ball inside is not durable. They still play with them though and I like how there’s no stuffing inside.

Very cute hedgehogs for pets
Style: Hedgehog dog toys
I bought these as a gift and they are adorable! Very well made and will hold up to a lot of chewing, tossing and rough housing.
