Text from Dust Jacket:
"There is a singular lack of modern volumes of ghost stories. Possibly that is due to the fact that people find it difficult to thrill to the somewhat crude horrors, picturesque apparitions and blood-freezing groans which have been lavishly scattered in so many tales of the supernatural. This volume is different because its effect of the macabre, its nerve-tensing atmosphere and its uncanny horror are contrived with greater subtlety. Only a reader completely devoid of imagination could fail to respond to its strange fascination. H. Russell Wakefield is a master of this type of story. "An always successful and classically polished purveyor of horror," is how The Observer described him. There can be no question that The Clock Strikes Twelve emphatically justifies that description."
