La Ferme du Mont 2021 Gigondas “Jugunda” is a richly structured and expressive southern Rhône red that showcases the power and perfume of Gigondas terroir with exuberant fruit, spice, and mineral depth. Plush yet structured, it delivers layered complexity and aromatic depth that make it enjoyable now, with the potential to evolve beautifully over the next decade.

Origins & Craftsmanship

Produced in the Gigondas AOC in the Southern Rhône — a region often likened to the “little sibling” of Châteauneuf-du-Pape due to its rich Grenache-driven reds and Mediterranean warmth — this wine reflects La Ferme du Mont’s artisanal approach.

Key production details:

  • Varietal Composition: A classic Southern Rhône blend typically around 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, giving both breadth of fruit and structural backbone.

  • Terroir: Soils of limestone and clay, combined with gentle southern Rhône sun and cooling night breezes, produce wines with ripe fruit concentration and lifted aromatic complexity.

  • Winemaking: Grapes are thoughtfully harvested and fermented with careful maceration to extract spice, fruit, and fine tannin development. Aging in a mix of concrete vats and older oak barrels preserves purity of expression while adding subtle texture.

The result is a wine with vibrant fruit character, spice nuance, and a layered finish — a fine example of traditional Gigondas style with contemporary vibrancy.

Critics Reviews & Professional Scores

Professional critics have praised the 2021 “Jugunda” as one of La Ferme du Mont’s standouts from recent vintages:

  • Wine Enthusiast — 92 / 100
The reviewer highlights aromas of mulled blackberry, black plum, licorice, violets, and subtle smoke. On the palate, energetic acidity carries a mix of black fruit and stone with clove and salt accents, while a light bitterness adds charm and depth.

  • Vinous Media — 91–93 / 100
Vinous notes a glistening ruby hue and highly perfumed, spice-accented red fruit and floral aromas. The palate is expansive, with cherry, spice cake, and licorice tones, finishing long and smooth with repeating floral notes and subtle tannins.

  • Wine Spectator Style — 90 / 100
This professional perspective emphasizes a muscular red profile with cherry preserves, fresh fig, pepper, and garrigue. Warm earth and graphite elements complement firm tannins and hints of vanilla in a persistent finish.

Together, these scores place the 2021 Jugunda in the low-to-mid-90s category, signaling strong quality for Gigondas and a compelling balance of fruit, tannin, spice, and structure.

Tasting Profile

Nose:
Aromatic and bold, with dark cherry, blackberry, and black plum mingling with Provençal herbs, cracked black pepper, licorice, violets, and a layered hint of smoke.

Palate:
Full-bodied and dynamic. Plush layers of bramble fruit and red currant mingle with clove, dried herbs, tobacco leaf, and subtle garrigue. Silky yet firm tannins frame the mid-palate, supported by balanced acidity and mineral tension.

Finish:
Long and resonant. Lingering dark fruit, pepper spice, smoky earth, and fine tannins taper into a refined, persistent close that invites another sip.

Used it one day and partially the following day. Put on charger. Never worked again. My dog played with it but returned it as defective.

Not for super chewers
Color: Blue
This ball seems to be of good quality; has held a charge well and is easy to use. Sadly, the cover lasted less than 15 minutes with our dog.... not for aggressive chewers for sure. Pretty funny to watch the hound dog jowls shake though.

Great fun for dogs!
Color: Orange
Two of our dogs really love this! It caused a lot of barking and chasing and running around trying to grab it. It's really funny to use the remote to control it (and especially make it stop when things get a little too chaotic!) It feels durable even when pawed and bumped into and stepped on. The battery life seems good. I plugged it in overnight to charge so not sure how long it took to charge, but it has lasted quite a while with the dogs playing with it and still doesn't need a charge. It's easy to screw off one side of the ball to plug it in to charge. The size is a little bigger than a tennis ball I would say and has a soft texture.

It doesn't work.
Color: Blue
The two halves of the ball shell come apart again and again when the dog plays with them. When it is time to recharge the core, it will not take a charge. The dog loves it, but it's unsafe to play with.
