About the Workshop:

Hands-On Riso is an introductory workshop that will familiarize you with all the manual processes of the Riso; from switching drums to refilling masters, you will know exactly how to treat the machine safely. You'll have the opportunity to get hands-on experience and become confident and at ease with operating the Riso.

You'll gain insights into its origins, evolution, and the reasons why artists and creators worldwide have fallen in love with this unique printing process. To make your experience even more memorable, you'll collaborate with fellow participants to create a collaborative two-ink poster that will serve as a tangible souvenir for you to take home. Participation in this workshop is required to participate in further sessions, as well as to be eligible to do the Riso Certification in order to use the machine independently.

This is part one in a series of five Riso workshops designed to build skills and familiarity with the risograph process. This session is a prerequisite for participation in any of the upcoming sessions. Register for Part #2: Analog Riso, Part #3: Duotone Riso Printing, Part #4: Riso for Photography, or Part #5: Ready, Set, Riso! Quick Publishing for Fast Times today!

Suggested Materials:

  • Pencil and paper for taking notes
  • Clothes that can get stained or dirty (CBA will provide aprons, but the ink used on press can stain)

All other materials will be provided by Center for Book Arts at no additional cost.
