Die Fronteingangshöhlen dienen als Schutz- und Rückzugsmöglichkeit für Krebse und kleine Welse. 
 Die hinten geschlossene Tonhöhle ist ca. 5,5 cm lang und hat eine Eingangsöffnung von ca. 2 cm. Die Höhlen sind auch ideal für Bepflanzungen von Moos.
 Da die Oberfläche recht porös ist, wächst das Moos sehr schnell und leicht an.
